The Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is a large deciduous tree known for its distinctive dark bark and rich, edible nuts. It can reach heights of 50 to 75 feet and has a wide canopy, making it a striking focal point in landscapes. The tree is also valued for its high-quality wood. Comes 24"-36" tall at purchase.

Care Instructions:

  1. Light: Prefers full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily).
  2. Soil: Thrives in well-draining, loamy soils with good moisture retention; tolerates clay and sandy soils.
  3. Watering: Regular watering is important, especially in the first few years. Ensure the soil remains moist but not waterlogged.
  4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth, particularly in nutrient-poor soils.
  5. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove any dead or crossing branches and maintain shape.
  6. Pests/Diseases: Monitor for pests like aphids and cankers. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.

With proper care, the Black Walnut tree can provide beauty, shade, and valuable nuts for generations!
