Pawpaw Tree (Asimina triloba)

The pawpaw tree is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree native to North America, prized for its large, tropical-looking leaves and unique, custard-like fruit with a flavor reminiscent of mango and banana. Comes 18" - 24" at pickup.

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Prefers partial shade when young; tolerates full sun when mature.
  • Soil: Thrives in well-drained, fertile, slightly acidic to neutral soil.
  • Water: Requires regular watering, especially during establishment; moderately drought-tolerant once mature.
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 5-9, requiring at least 400 chill hours for fruit production.
  • Pruning: Minimal pruning needed; focus on shaping and removing suckers in late winter.

Summary: The pawpaw tree is a unique addition to any garden, offering both ornamental appeal and delicious, tropical-tasting fruit in temperate climates.
